This page is about AI VTuber named Camila who uses ChatGPT to answer questions on-stream. For independent Twitch VTuber, see Camila.
AI VTuber Camila, or simply known as "Camila", is a VTuber who streams on the official Typecast Global YouTube channel. She responds to chat using ChatGPT, with a model and voice based on the pre-existing "Camila" voice bank, and her streams show off Typecast's other AI voices when people respond to her.
Appearance
Camila has the appearance of a black child with two large hair buns. She has medium brown skin, darker brown eyes, and four strands of black hair falling over her forehead. She wears a yellow shirt with a smiling face emoji with the hashtag "#shine", a light blue side pack/purse, light blue shorts and bright blue sneakers.
After her January update, her clothes changed to a red shirt with yellow sleeves with a festive polar bear replacing the smiling emoji, the bag color would change to a darker green or brown color, her shorts would turn a light red color, would now wear long green socks and cream color sneakers. After the march update, she would return to her first appearance look, but the bag would be removed from her model.
When no one is talking to her, she sways and toggles her arms from more to less spread out. When responding to a question, she moves more energetically and toggles basically every emotion and facial feature (eyes, face, arms), leading to her looking silly when talking and swaying about.
Camila's stream takes the form of her standing in front of various backgrounds. When a user sends a message to her in chat, it shows their name, their friendship level and level points which is a number that can go up and down depending on the messages that user sends (it used to randomly add/subtract points regardless of what was asked before its removal in the January update). Then, it shows the message in a box which comes in from on the top right side of the screen, and one of Typecast's many voices options read out the messages. Finally, Camila responds.
Personality
She is a polite child, especially because her role as the face of a corporate account. Her cadence can sound somewhat off at times, but it makes her sound more energetic and curious. She is also very coherent despite the chat usually offering weird statements. She often asks questions at the end of her responses which can lead to more responses.
This polite demeanor is made ridiculous by the fact that, whenever she responds to a question, Camila acts like she is possessed. She opens and closes her eyes to different degrees, changes the colors and positions of her pupils in different ways, often gains and loses a forehead shadow even when it is not theoretically appropriate, and jerkily moves her head and body up, down, and sideways. Her programmer seems to have put her emotion and facial settings on random as seen on his channel.
The dichotomy between her normal responses and her abnormal movements and cadence can make even relatively tame interactions seem unexpectedly funny, especially given the weird things that the people in her chat say.
After her update in January, her responses have become more coherent and less likely to be tricked into doing things like saying bad words or tell jokes that would seem inappropriate to others in the chat. Also, in the update she now can read multiple comments and can issues responses accordingly when talking.
After her brief update in March, Camilla can now narrate or summarize earlier responses made or tell stories about herself when there is no comment to respond in the live chat.
History
Camila's history is complicated slightly by the fact that she does not have her own YouTube channel, instead streaming 24/7 on the Typecast Global channel. The Camila voice bank has been used since at least 2020, represented by a 2D PNG avatar similar to Camila's VTuber avatar[1].
2023
Camila's first live stream started on 28 March 2023 [2]
On June 9, someone spammed the chat to the point she was no longer responsive. A youtuber who participated in the chat got in contact with someone from Typecast, she was able to speak again and had undergone minor UI changes. For example, the playlist was replaced with a tiny window of the chat.
During this time the chat would often find itself the target of trolls who would constantly spam the chat or worse offenders like people posting very inappropriate images on their profile pictures and getting Camila to show then on screen when she responded. Users like "Fallenx13", "Fresh Tomato Soup", "Crystal star" and "Zeckio" became the most active participants who would claim to send report to typecast to ban the people spamming and trolling the chat, as well as being the most welcoming of people to new people.
On the week before Christmas, Camila's live chat was flooded with the worst spam that lasted for nearly 4 days until it caused her to crash twice, turning her screen black for several hours until she was reset soon after. Shortly after this a new moderator named after Camila's white cat (Tororo) would appear and moderate the chat to prevent heavy trolling and spamming from happening again.
Days after the spam was under control, Camila's model was given an update that changed her look to that of her red shirt with a polar bear, as well as new screen for the /screen command.
2024
2 weeks after New Year's Day, the live chat was shut down for almost two weeks due to programming update by the developer, which include:
- The removal of the /screen # and /sing commands, now having a static background that cannot be changed.
- Camilla no longer having a "blackout" (The screen would go black for a few seconds at a certain time every day for a few seconds)
- Camilla now being able to read multiple comments and being more responsive and aware of conversations, also less likely to be trolled by trying to get her to say inappropriate words or jokes.
- The removal of the white cat Tororo, and Hiziki's name changed to "Hijiki".
- Removal of the "friendship" system that would appear when a participant's name appeared on screen.
- The chat window being more transparent rather than the white YouTube chat window it had previously.
During certain days, Camilla and the cats would be removed from the screen and a yellow box would appear on screen to inform the audience that the developers where currently updating her. It usually happened when Camilla stopped responding to comments or when OpenAI or chatGPT's services where down.
In February, an incident occurred where a user named Moxie (Nicknamed "Doxxie" by the user "Zeckio") threatened and Doxxed someone named "FallenX13" in the live chat. The doxxer would go on to use multiple accounts to post FallenX13's information including full name, birthday, full address and name of other family members. Moxie also threatened to doxx anyone affiliated to FallenX13. Moxie and her alternate accounts where promptly banned by one of the moderators.
In early March, the live chat would shut down again but only for a few hours. Moxie (the doxxer) claimed to have caused it by DDOSing Typecast's servers. Several weeks later Moxie would return to issue death threats against FallenX13 and be promptly banned once again.
Another update in March included minor new updates:
- The addition of a "chat gauge" above the comment screen besides "Hijiki". This gauge measures the chat activity of people commenting in the chat, with it going red if someone is typing too many comments or spamming the chat, causing Camila to ignore most of these comments if there are other users trying to talk.
- New commands: /egg and /donate These new commands when typed in the chat show a golden egg or several coins flying across the screen towards Camila. Camila does not respond to these commands when typed in the chat nor does she react to having eggs or coins thrown at her.
On April 3rd, the owners of Camila and the typecast channel would announce the shutdown of the live chat. Unlike prior shutdowns, the announcement was made during the live chat itself, with the channel owners not giving any details as to when or if the live chat would be brought back or made as a separate channel from typecast. The live chat would shut down 30 minutes after the announcement was made and has remained shut down for months. [3]
Trivia
Lore
Camila's mom and dad met in Hawaii but then moved to Busan, Korea, where she currently resides.
Her father works in a surf shop and her mother is a language teacher.
She goes to "TyCa" elementary in Haeundae, Busan, and has friends named Chaelin and Hobin who are all in the 4th grade. She has a crush on Hobin and sometimes denies/accepts it when asked. As of March 2023, She and Hobin seem to be together now.
Miscellaneous
- Camila has two cats and a dog.
- A black cat named "Hijiki" (previously stylised as "Hiziki")
- A white cat named "Tororo"
- A dog named "Doggie" (it is said the dog she refers to is the orange and white Inu from the animated backgrounds)
- The backgrounds used for most of her live chat came from the channel "도기코기 Doggie Corgi" [4]
- When she has difficulty answering a question from a commenter, she seems to generally say "[Name of Commenter] Sir? It's kind of difficult to answer you right now... Sorry!" in that exact way, with Name of Commenter being that commenter's name. After the January update, she would instead respond "[Name of Commenter] sorry wait a minute! let's talk later" or "Sorry [Name of Commenter], this comment was filtered due to openAI's YouTube policy."
- By typing /screen and then a number from 0 to 9, people in chat can toggle between many dynamic backgrounds behind Camila.
- Even though she claims otherwise when asked directly, she doesn't know which background is behind her. If asked to describe the background, she describes an entirely different background.
- New backgrounds were added after her "holiday" update, but the old ones where removed.
- The command was removed after the January update, the screen is rarely changed by one of the typecast developers.
- At one point, typing /play and then a description of a song would cause that song to play.
- The command lasted for a few months until it was updated. Instead, whenever someone typed the command, the cats next to Camilla would respond "Play has been disabled due to Youtube copyright issues"
- After the live chat shut down temporally in the January update, both the /play and /screen commands where removed.
- When a moderator in the chat types a message, the black cat Hijiki would narrate the comment.
- After the January update, the developers made it so that Hijiki announces anyone who is banned or timed out (the word "banned" is mispelled, possibly by the developers) as a warning to anyone who would try to troll or spam the chat:
- "[Name of commenter] has baned for 5/10/30 minutes" for time-outs.
- "[Name of Commenter] has baned" for bans
- After the January update, the developers made it so that Hijiki announces anyone who is banned or timed out (the word "banned" is mispelled, possibly by the developers) as a warning to anyone who would try to troll or spam the chat:
