Production and release[]
The music video to DO U was uploaded on 18 September 2022. The single received an international digital release on the same day, and included an instrumental track. Following the release, Kiara did not release any new singles for nearly a year, and instead worked on her first album.
Kiara described it as difficult and time-consuming to record, because she had to record a large number of backup vocals. The use of black and white variant outfits came about because Kiara's only available 3D model was her base outfit, and it was felt that this did not fit the song. The use of two alternate Kiaras suited the concept of a song in which Kiara provided her own backing vocals.[2]
On 27 October 2022, Kiara posted a joke edit of the music video without the backing track, titled DO U - Without Music Version (Behind The Scenes).
On 29 August 2023, DO U was re-released as part of Kiara's first album, Point of View. The cover to that album was designed by Antsy, who had previously created a piece of fanart in a similar style for the single of DO U in 2022. Kiara's instruction for the album art was to make something which would also be acceptable to non-VTuber fans.[3][4][5]
On 17 September 2023, Kiara uploaded a Korean version of DO U: 【두유 한국어】DO U - Takanashi Kiara (Korean Vers.) This was Kiara's first song in Korean. Backing vocals were provided by monii, who had previously released her own cover of DO U, as well as working on several of the new songs on Point of View.[1]
