Born and raised under the flag of Freedom, Gigi Murin is a free-spirited Chaser and mischievous gremlin.

While she is proficient in chasing down targets with pure intuition, she struggles with memorizing directions and making calculated decisions. She states that she’d rather not spend much time thinking because it makes her head hurt.

These quirks are also present in her everyday life, where she tends to prioritize her instinctual craving for fun and being silly over anything else.

She is often the source of headaches for those around her, causing trouble because she "thought it would be funny."

Gigi is a gamer, and loves the thrill of winning. She seems to have "gremlin" energy.

She describes herself as "chaotic good" in alignment.

Appearance

Gigi has pink eyes, and two-tone light brown and dark brown hair, tied up in bunches. She has a tall ahoge which sticks out of her hoodie. She customarily wears a bright orange hoodie decorated with fans, black cycle shorts, and one striped black and orange knee-high sock on her right leg. She has sharp teeth. The X eye (left eye) on her hoodie blinks every time she blinks.

History

Background

Gigi originally learned of hololive in 2020, with the Myth debuts. She was inspired to be a content creator, and would go on to be accepted for hololive English's fourth generation.

Gigi's YouTube channel was created on 3 April 2024. Her Twitter account was registered in the same month.

Gigi was announced as one of four members of hololive English -Justice- on 18 June 2024 in a video titled The Mission Begins! Gigi made her first tweet shortly after. This was followed by a short profile video, titled Gigi: GG NOOBS!!! 😝.

The announcement of hololive English fourth generation took most of the VTuber community by surprise. The previous English generation, Advent, had debuted less than a year earlier, and Cover's last quarterly report had suggested a strategy of less frequent VTuber debuts. The names of the new members had been leaked by trademark registration a few hours prior to their official announcement.

Debut

Gigi made her debut stream on 21 June 2024 at 8:45PM PDT. The stream featured a roleplaying game style scenario where players voted on the outcome of a story, and a Frogger style video game controlled by chat in Twitch Plays Pokémon style. It reached over 120,000 viewers at peak. Her YouTube channel reached 128,000 subscribers by the end of the stream.

The debut stream was followed by a song cover of Hito Mania.

The Justice debut event concluded with the release of their first original single, ABOVE BELOW, and the first Justice collab on 22 June at 9:30 PM PDT.

2024

On 24 June, she reached 200,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel.

On 7 July, Gigi celebrated her YouTube channel monetization and enabled Super Chat feature.

On 26 July, she opened membership feature on her YouTube channel.

On 31 August, as part of the ENigmatic Recollection project, hololive English members debuted a new accessory for their main 2D costumes. They wear the white and blue cloaks first seen in the project's introduction video and related concept art. The cloak includes a blue gem containing a symbol that represents their affiliated guilds.

On 30 September, she reached 300,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel.

• Gigi is a female given of French origin. It is perhaps best known as the name of the protagonist in the English dub of 1980s magical girl anime Magical Princess Minky Momo, which was titled The Magical World of Gigi.
  • As noted in the title of her debut stream, "GG STANDS FOR GIGI," the name is also synonymous with the gamer slang "GG," an initialism meaning "good game."
  • Her name is pronounced like the phrase "GG."
• Murin is a French word, meaning "mousey."
• "Murin" is also part of the word "gremlin" as written in Japanese, 「グレムリン」 (guremurin). A gremlin is a mischievous monster or, in slang, a young and annoying gamer, with the latter meaning originating in surfer and later skateboarding slang.
