ISEGYE IDOL (이세계 아이돌), or ISEDOL (이세돌) for short, is a Korean VTuber girl-group project directed and ran by Korean streamer Woowakgood. Due to the Twitch's termination of its Korean service, they migrated from Twitch to SOOP on 11 February 2024. At the time of transfer, all six members of Isegye Idol had over 300k followers. They also have their own YouTube channels that upload stream edits, music cover videos, and fan-made videos. Their YouTube channels are all over 300k subscribers as of June 2024.
Most of Isegye Idol's contents, such as music video, YouTube edits, VRChat map/filming, and concerts are operated by Isegye Idol members and the fanbase- meaning no company staffs involved. Parable Entertainment, which Isegye Idol's streamer management agency, offers limited supports such as legal counsel, distribution of profit, advertisement, pop-up store and such.

A Part Of WAKTAVERSE[]
Having been been streaming since 2008, Woowakgood preferred recruiting participants from his fans over having collaborations with other streamers for multiplay streams. In 2021, Woowakgood planned to enrol fun viewers good to be with in "Gomem(고멤, abbr. for 고정멤버(regular/fixed members))" and make them participate in streams regularly rather than recruiting every streams, and their activities(especially VRChat-based) were named "Waktaverse".
In the same year, Woowakgood planned a different type of Gomem, which would be virtual K-pop idols and streamers at the same time, just for his fun. Around 200 people auditioned for the project, and ultimately six members were chosen to represent ISEGYE IDOL. Woowakgood considered the project as one of his VRChat special programme and that can be terminated at any time depending on its performance. He even stated in the project announcement that the chance of succeeding is around "0.2%."[1] However, after RE:WIND, the first commercial record of ISEGYE IDOL, succeeded in charting, the plan was revised from an early Gomem-like plan to a full-fledged virtual idol concept.
For such background, ISEGYE IDOL members mainly use 3D-based avatars to fit in VRChat, and other than having stage name and 3D-based avatars, they normally don't play characters.
History[]
2021[]
On 4 June, Woowakgood posted on his Fan Cafe (Korean version of Reddit/4Chan) that "I will make you into an ISEGYE IDOL." The project was initially called "Cyber Idol," but later changed to Isegye Idol.[2]
On 10 July, Woowakgood streamed the First Round of the audition process in VRChat, where participants would sing their chosen song. The three judges were Woowakgood, Roentgenium, and GreatMoonAroma. Two out of the three judges needed to pass the contestant in order for them to pass. Some participants passed through a "super pass," which was given to each judge.
On 17 July, the First Round of the audition officially ended. There were 106 participants eliminated, while 39 participants passed. The names of those who passed the first round were posted on his Fan Cafe.[3]
On 24 July, the Second Round of the audition process started. The task was to simply "stream." Woowakgood also later interviewed the participants and streamed it on his Twitch channel.
On 31 July, the Second Round of the audition process officially ended. There were 18 participants eliminated, while 21 participants passed. The names of those who passed the second round were posted on his Fan Cafe.[4] The Third Round of the audition started on the same day, the tasks being "continued streaming" and "collab stream."
On 7 August, the Third Round of the audition process officially ended. There were 10 participants eliminated, while 11 participants passed. The names of those who passed the third round were posted on his Fan Cafe.[5]
On 15 August, the Final Round of the audition process started. The participants were evaluated based on their YouTube contents, PR Video (a video to promote themselves in order to win votes), and compatibility with each other and Woowakgood.
On 26 August, Woowakgood revealed the six participants who have passed the audition on his Fan Cafe.[6] However, Isegye Idol would not officially debut until their album release.
On 17 December, Isegye Idol's first single album RE:WIND was released on Melon Chart (Korean music chart). Isegye Idol also officially debuted on this day.
2022[]
On 11 March, Isegye Idol's second single album Winter Spring was released on Melon Chart.
On 21 March, Gosegu performed her first Solo Concert live on Twitch called "Hope Concert." The purpose was to give hope to viewers who have been exhausted by Coronavirus.[7]
On 2 April, Ine collaborated with popular Korean rappers and released a song called "Hollow Season."[8] This was possible due to one of the rapper, Genius Nochang, being a fan of Woowakgood.
On 15 May, Jururu performed her first Solo Concert live on Twitch called "Ju. T'aime."[9] This was a concert celebrating 100k subscribers on YouTube.
On 10 August, Woowakgood announced that two Isegye Idol webtoons would be released on KakaoPage. The webtoon's storywriters and illustrators were all chosen through a quick audition.[10]
On 5 November, Woowakgood opened an audition for an original soundtrack to be used for the webtoon. [11]
On 11 November, the official fan name for Isegye Idol fans was announced. The fan name is "ifari" (이파리). The word is a mix of "I" from "Isegye," and the word Safari. The word also translates to "leaf."[12]
On 18 December, Gosegu performed her second Solo Concert live on YouTube called "TOUR." [13]
On 23 December, Lilpa performed her first Solo Concert live on YouTube called "Dream Again."[14]
2024[]
All members had an official vacation from 18 January to 28 January. During the 11-day vacation period, streaming was prohibited for 7 days, and was left to personal discretion for last four days.
On February, whole Waktaverse members migrated from Twitch to SOOP, a Korean streaming platform, due to the termination of Korean service of Twitch. Viichan, Jingburger, Ine started streaming on SOOP at 10th, and Jururu, Lilpa, Gosegu the following day.
Trivia[]
- Some name nominees included: Gamramsonyeo, Butyouwant, Wakey, and VIRTU.
- Isegye Idol communicate with each other through Discord, VRChat, and streams. They had not met in real life until Isegye Festival held in September 2023.
- A portion of Woowakgood's Fan Cafe revolves around Isegye Idol, where fans can post fan videos, clips from previous streams, fan animations, fan webtoons, and more. Isedols usually spend an hour or more on Fan Cafe and do Just Chatting.
- Isegye Idol technically has a manager named Roentgenium, but the manager is just a concept/role given to him to roleplay (Please note that Roentgenium is just as much a manager as other idol groups and their managers. He works very hard alongside Isedol). When Woowakgood scouted for a manager, Roentgenium appealed and won the role by saying "I watched The Idolmaster for six years."
- Isegye Idol does not have an official leader. Many fans view either Ine (who is the eldest member) or Lilpa (who was a former K-pop idol) as the leader, but due to Woowakgood leading the stream during collaborations, there is no need for an official leader at the moment.
- Isegye Idol's initial 3D avatars are all from VRChat BOOTH, meaning they couldn't do promotional events due to copyright. They've slowly been changing their avatars to Original Characters. Gosegu is the last member to have her original avatar.
