Kano Mahoro (鹿乃まほろ) is a female Japanese Virtual YouTuber and also a well-known utaite, Kano (鹿乃). She is a member of the music unit MKLNtic together with fellow utaite & VTuber Lon. She was also formerly a member of the disbanded VTuber group Hanayori Girls' Dormitory, where she was previously known only as Kano (鹿乃).

Personality[]
Kano may appear to be a sweet person at first. However, she is also known to be quite smug, especially when she executes tongue twisters well.[4] She is also dubbed as the "overlord" of the group, and playfully bullies other members, especially Hareru, even when Hareru is being called "senpai."[5]
She is also a yandere, especially when teased about her height[6] or when a "daredemo daisuki" (DD for short, a type of viewer who loves any and every VTuber) is in her stream.
She is a little weak to horror, or is she?[7]

She has long, light peach hair braided into twintails that are tied up by navy blue-gold ribbons, and eyes with peach-colored irises. Her original design from Hanayori Girls' Dormitory depicts her with shorter hair and a light red school uniform.

Her X (Twitter) account was created in July 2019, while her first tweet was made on 1 August.[8] Her YouTube channel was created on 31 July 2019.
2019[]
On 1 August, Kano made her debut as a member of the Hanayori Girls' Dormitory with a self-introduction song. This debut video was later privated and reuploaded to the official Hanayori Girls' Dorm YouTube channel on 27 May 2021, in preparation for her re-debut.[9]
On 24 December, during her birthday's celebration stream, she debuted a new hairstyle.[10]
2020[]
On 28 September, Kano reached 100k subscribers on her YouTube channel.[11]
2021[]
On 15 February, as Hanayori Girl's Dormitory disbanded, she continued as an independent VTuber. She also renamed her YouTube channel to "Kano game channel".
On 29 May, she held her re-debut, changing her name to Kano Mahoro (鹿乃まほろ) and also debuting a new Live2D model. [12]
2022[]
On 12 August, Kano and her friend Lon, formed a VTuber music unit called MKLNtic (a portmanteau of Mahoro Kano and Lon, it is pronounced "makarontic"). In this stream, she also debuted a new outfit, her 3rd costume (counting her original Hanayori design).[13] They also created a separate YouTube channel called MKLNtic where they upload their music projects.
On 22 September, it was revealed that she will perform the ending song of the anime "Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai! Double" as MKLNtic.[14]

- On 7 September 2023, Kano participated in the 121st edition of the weekly ShibuHAL Custom Apex tournament as part of team "Kami-sama Hotoke-sama Kano-sama" (神さま仏さま鹿乃さま) along with Makio and M1kod4yo. The team placed 1st in the ranking for Match 2, winning a JPY 9,000 prize.[15]
- On 15 February 2025, Kano participated in the DTTO.CUP Apex tournament as part of Pakael TEAM along with Pakael and Aoi Sakura.[16]

Identity[]
- Kano shares her name with the utaite of the same name, as well as her birthday. In fact, Kano (utaite) has promoted Hanayori on her social media, which confirmed that she debuted as a Virtual YouTuber.[17]
- Kano is the only mononymous member of Hanayori Girl's Dorm, being referred to simply by the name "Kano" with no last name given. In her personal intro-song she states she does in fact have a last name, but "asking about it will get you banned".
- After Hanayori Girls' Dormitory was disbanded, she changed her YouTube channel name, X (Twitter) handle, Oshi Mark/Emoji, the hashtag for stream impressions and the hashtag for illustration.
- Her YouTube channel name was changed from "鹿乃 / Kano" to "Kano game channel" before she re-debuted as Kano Mahoro.[18]
- She changed her X (Twitter) handle from @kano_hanayori to @kanolive_ before deactivating it and migrating to her new account.[19]
- Her Oshi mark was changed from 🌼🎄 to 🍓🕊.[20]
- Before she rebranded her name to Kano Mahoro, her hashtag for stream impressions was changed from #花より鹿乃でしょっ to #かのちら
- During this time her hashtag for illustration was also changed from #鹿乃art to #絵えかの
- After rebranding, the name Kano effectively serves the purpose of a last name due to how she writes this name in Japanese ("Kano" 鹿乃 goes first before "Mahoro" まほろ), although due to her Hanayori-era naming, it continues to be used as if it was still her first name.
- During her 3rd costume reveal, she explained that the rebranding was due to a funny but serious incident: when she was still using the mononym "Kano" (鹿乃) (i.e. her pre-Mahoro era), she got a lot of complaints that she was supposedly a "crazy woman who stole the name Kano (鹿乃) from the (more famous) girl with the deer horns," even though she was in fact, the very same person. She thought of coming clean to explain, and in the end made a distinction (by adding "Mahoro" (まほろ) to her VTuber name), although ultimately she now lets fans call her the way they want (e.g. Kano-chan, Mahoro-chan, Kano Mahoro, etc.)[21]
- On 11 February 2025, Kano made it clear that she was the same person as the deer girl utaite Kano, with the release of her original song Doppelganger to Fukuseiganger (ドッペル原画と複製ゲンガー) on her official utaite channel. The music video clearly shows both of her personas on both the thumbnail and the MV itself.
Miscellaneous[]
- She has what has been dubbed by fans as "Yandere Mode", where her eyes lose their natural reflectivity and her facial expression freezes, resulting in an unnerving and intense death-stare.[22] While she's been known to enter her "Yandere Mode" when upset or angry, she's also been known to trigger it deliberately in order to frighten and tease her audience and then reveal she was just messing with them, stating that she knows her audience has a lot of "masochists" and that she knows they find it "entertaining".
- She is known to be particularly sensitive about her height (standing only 145 cm, or 4 feet and 7 inches). Teasing her about her height, even accidentally and indirectly, has been known to trigger her "Yandere Mode".[6]
- In Kano Mahoro's debut stream, she is stated to be 150cm, although some fans think otherwise.[23]
- Kano is an active player on StoGra (STGR, Streamer Grand Theft Auto), a JP streamer GTA roleplaying (RP) server. She streams her StoGra activities on her Twitch channel, RPing as the characters Shiika Maho (椎花まほ) and Kano Honoka (花野ほのか).
- She shares her character designer with MKLNtic partner Lon, former Hanayori colleagues Hanamaru Hareru, Kohigashi Hitona and Nonomiya Nonono, as well as Shirakasa Kurage from Parallel Artist Project and Tsukimiya Kanon from my dear. production.
