Kizuna AI no BEAT Scramble (キズナアイのBEATスクランブル Kizuna Ai no biito sukuranburu) was a 2018 six episode, 30 minutes, variety television series hosted by Kizuna AI and commissioned by Nippon TV (日本テレビ). The spiritual successor of this series is the monthly show Nobangumi (のばん組) also hosted by Kizuna AI.
BEAT Scramble was broadcast weekly every Friday at midnight JST from 6 April to 22 June 2018 on the Broadcast Satellite digital channel BS Nittere (BS日テレ).
Premise[]
BEAT Scramble marks the debut of Kizuna AI in Japanese television (a trend other VTubers like Siro, Kaguya Luna, Fuji Aoi and several others followed later). The show was split into two main subjects: an interview episode and a commentary episode. Two of the six episodes were dedicated to Kizuna AI's reviewing a whole episode of the infamous 1970's anime series The Adventures of Hutch the Honeybee (昆虫物語 みなしごハッチ Konchū Monogatari: Minashigo Hatchi), known for its sad and cruel plots. The interview episodes had as guests Nippon TV producers Toshio Tsuchiya (土屋敏男) and Jirou Nishida (西田二郎), along with Tarento Becky (ベッキー) and Satomi Shigemori (重盛さと美). The show also had skits in which AI talked to people on places like a store or a CGI company's meeting room.
Trivia[]
- In order for the show to fill all the 12 weeks of the 2018 spring season on Nittere and because of budget issues, the six episodes had to be rebroadcast.
- The series lost its only sponsor, the mobile game Brave Sword x Blaze Soul by Grimoire Co., Ltd. In a public statement released in a series of tweets on his Twitter account, the CEO of Grimoire, Yusuke Kamiya explained the reasons of the withdrawal as a company they " ..feel that this show makes fun of its viewers, users, and sponsors. We simply cannot support this..." and "[f]rankly, we would like to hear from Kizuna AI's team regarding this matter." Finally, in regards to the game being advertised, Kamiya added that "[w]e feel that the money we expect to spend will not be used wisely. It falls upon me, as president. I am truly sorry."[1][2]
