She has long black hair with a red streak, light green eyes with pointed ears and a 'headband' made of multiple syringes filled with presumably blood. She has a cross-shaped scar under her right eye, and a white dermal piercing under her left eye. She has pointed ears that droop downwards and have red tips.

- Her community is known as the Hemogoblins, named as a spoonerism of the word "hemoglobin" to tie into her blood theme.
- Hemogoblins are white goblins with only fangs for teeth, black scleras, red irises, and white pupils. They have sparse grays spots all over, with spots around the cheeks resembling freckles. They also have ear notches in their right ears.

- Layna lives in New Zealand.
- In 2005, Layna was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, an incurable chronic disease affecting the intestine. She has had over 26 blood transfusions since. The syringes in her model reflect this, and she has stated elements of her "true form" are metaphors for how the disease affects her.[10]
- She is allergic to ultraviolet rays.[10]
