Lord Aethelstan (also written Lord Æthelstan) is an independent English-language VTuber, musician, and former bodybuilder who streams on Twitch.

Before his rise to popularity as a VTuber, he was best known for producing music for other VTubers, including Go Banyanners and the Mousewave Album.

Personality[]

Lord Aethelstan is a chill, playful, laid-back, and hilarious guy. He cares a lot about his castle; often he says that he is a villain but he constantly disproves that statement by giving his community life advices and encouragement.

Appearance[]

Aethelstan is a muscular vampire-like himbo. His eyes are golden, skin is pale and his hair is white at the root but as it grows it gets a dark pink tint. Ever since he was cursed by something (or someone), cat ears sometimes pop out of his head when he gets excited.

His overall aesthetic has a Victorian influence. He wears quite a bit of jewelry, including earings, necklaces, rings, finger claws, and a choker, which hides a bite mark. One of the most striking features from his design are the two wolf pauldrons and a cape; it is believed that the wolves have names, but they are still unknown (and they are both gay).

Background[]

Lord Aethelstan's Twitter account was created on 26 October 2020. His Twitch channel was created on 28 October 2020. It was originally just made as a joke to troll his streamer friend. Before he started streaming, he used to shitpost and roleplay this character with a British accent on Twitter. He first learned of VTubers after seeing a collab between Gawr Gura and Watson Amelia. The name Aethelstan was inspired by the historic English King Aethelstan, after watching the TV historic drama The Last Kingdom.

Aethelstan first streamed on Twitch on 9 January 2021. He used a PNG of his character in streams as early as 24 January 2021, during a stream titled "Lord Aethelstan Live Global Worldwide EP #1." but his Live2D avatar first appeared on stream on 24 May 2021.

2021[]

Lord Aethelstan's YouTube channel was created on 25 May.

On 9 August, Aethelstan revealed a new short hairstyle.[1]

On 13 October, he became Twitch partner.[2]

On 3 November, he reached 10,000 Twitch followers.[3][4]

On 27 December, he reached 20,000 Twitch followers. [5]

2022[]

On 3 February, Aethelstan quit his job to become a full-time content creator.[6]

On 6 May, he publicly announced his relationship with fellow streamer, Nyatasha Nyanners.[7] The announcement followed an incident one week earlier where Nyanners accidentally outed their relationship by calling Aethel "babe" during a Final Fantasy X collab stream.[8]

On 28 June, Aethelstan debuted a new Live2D model. In the stream, he held a funeral for his old model and launched his first episode of his new show, called "Boys Talk".

On 20 August, he reached 100,000 Twitch followers.

On 12 October, Aethel had his first face cam stream where he was dressed in a real medieval armor. He said he was inspired by Kson, who does both VTuber and IRL streams.

On 1 November, he started his own challange called "No Vice November" in which he would stay 30 days without vaping (he had been vaping everyday for around six years at this point). He encouraged his followers to try doing something for 30 days with him, be it quitting a vice or starting a new habit.

On 30 November, he successfully completed 30 days without vaping. Aethel described it as probably one of the hardest things he had ever done in his life. The withdrawal and headaches were almost unbearable, but he kept on trucking because of the support of his community. On that day he was stopped by an armed FBI agent from going to penjamin city once again. He then decided to quit it for good.

2024[]

On 27 August, Lord Aethelstan reached 100,000 YouTube subscribers.

On 11 October, Lord Aethelstan was announced as a member of Mythic Talent.[9]

After 9 December, he took a hiatus which lasted until 30 January.

2025[]

After 27 March, he took a hiatus which lasted until the end of June, streaming only once in that time period, on 22 April.

On 29 April, he made his return to Twitch.

Mascot and Fans[]

  • Lord Aethelstan's mascot is a golden retriever puppy named Bradley.
    • Bradley originally appeared in the stream as a piece of stock art. Viewer reaction was so positive that he bought the rights to the image.
  • Aethel's followers are known as Bradley Boys.
  • He also refers to his followers collectively as "the Castle."
    • In turn, viewers refer to Aethel as "m'lord."

  • Lord Aethelstan was born the son of a king in 969 AD.
  • According to LORD AETHELSTAN VTUBER LORE & BACKSTORY, Aethelstan and his father were betrayed and killed in the night by Lord Traf. Aethelstan went to Hell for doing butt stuff, but was able to return to life after defeating Satan in a once-in-500-years Tetris tournament. However, the curse left him immortal.
  • He wears small vials which hold the blood of his enemies, which he draws power from.
    • Aethel has acquired various powers from enemies he has defeated.
  • He inhabits a castle. It is full of enchanted items such as candles which automatically extinguish themselves during the day.
    • His entire castle is magically enchanted. All of Lord Aethelstan's followers have their own room a the Castle, and the castle magically expands to include them.
    • The castle has infinite stable boys. Aethel was able to find a stable boy duplication glitch.
  • Aethel is only the lord of his domain, not ruler of the inhabitants of the castle. Each inhabitant is technically their own Lord. "I'm just the lord of the land itself. The castle's for everyone."
  • Aethel is 13% gay.
  • In his many years, he has learned various powers. One such power is soul-sending, which he taught himself over a summer when cable was out.

Bradley[]

  • Bradley, the castle's dog and mascot, was originally Aethel's brother, who assumed dog form.
  • Bradley was rescued from a dog fighting ring.
  • Bradley is thought to have been descended from Air Bud.
  • Bradley was originally intended as a satire on YouTube apology videos, but as the castle started to make different attires it grew into the castle's official mascot.
  • Bradley has many forms from his original "naked" form going through different armors and sports attires. His most known one is with the same collar and earrings as Lord Aethelstan, which was made by BlackAndBlueSteel.

  • Lord Aethelstan shares his name with Æthelstan, first King of England, who ruled 924 to 939 AD. His name means "noble stone". Wikipedia has a list of people named Aethelstan, mostly from England in the 8th to 11th centuries.
  • Boof Pack is perhaps his most popular song.
  • His castle background follows a day/night cycle. The artist of his castle background is the VTuber Merryweather, who also introduced Aethel to Live2D artist DyaRikku.
  • Bradley, the community's PNG golden retriever mascot, originated from an apology to Nyanners' mom. The name came from Ifrit's nickname during his FFX playthrough.
  • Aethel used to compete in bodybuilding competitions. He still works out.
