Profile

"Ah, the beautiful resonance of idol songs..."

With a deep love of song, Nerissa Ravencroft is "The Demon of Sound." Her powerful love turned into a dark power that inhabited her singing, giving her music the potential to drive the entire world mad. The gods, fearful of her beautiful voice, decided to seal her away for eternity, but this did not seal away her desire to sing for others. While she was sealed away, she came across Japanese otaku culture, and is currently fascinated by idol songs and penlights. Maybe her life imprisoned wasn't all that bad.

Personality

Nerissa is a very sweet and friendly person, but can be flirtatious with her jailbirds and friends sometimes.

Appearance

Nerissa has long straight black hair with a blue inner side decorated with silver and golden ornaments on her left. She used to have two symmetrical horns, but one was broken long ago. Her horns have a blue internal layer covered with a black one that take the shape of musical notes near their base. Her horns are also decorated with black flowers. Nerissa has light purple eyes and a beauty mark below the left eye. She also has such a mark on her right thigh.[6]

Nerissa usually wears a striped shoulderless white shirt decorated with a black bow and a ruffled collar. The sleeves are covered with black fabric and resemble feathers at the edges, she wears black gloves. She has a sleeveless, layered coat tied together with three crossed belts below her chest. She wears assymetrical high boots; the right one has a diamond pattern. Nerissa can also carry a giant tuning fork decorated with the same flowers as her horns. Her raven mascot Shadow can also stand in her right shoulder.

History

Background

Following the debut of hololive English second generation -Council-, hololive English announced a permanent English language audition page on 30 December 2021.[7] An update to the audition page on 7 September 2022 sparked speculation of an upcoming English third generation.[8]

Nerissa auditioned three times before she was finally accepted. Her first audition received some views by staff, but was not accepted. For her second audition, she tried affecting a cute voice, but the submission was immediately rejected after listening for one second.[9] Her third attempt at audition consisted of a segment where she chatted with the listener in a familiar tone, followed by a sample of her singing ability. She was overwhelmed when she learned she had been successful.[10]

Nerissa Ravencroft's YouTube and Twitter accounts were originally created on 11 May 2023, although they contained no content at this point.

The third generation of hololive English, -Advent-, was first teased on the hololive English Twitter account with a short video on 22 July 2023.[11] This was followed by another teaser video on 23 July, showing five new characters.[12]

On 25 July, the hololive English YouTube channel posted a video titled Wanted!, revealing the five members of -Advent- and announcing their upcoming debuts.[13] At the same time, Nerissa also posted a short teaser video on her YouTube channel and made her first tweet, saying "Ope?!"[5][14] A Twitch account was created for Nerissa on the same day, although it would go largely unused.

Nerissa's Twitter and YouTube accounts were accidentally discovered by some fans several hours prior to the official announcement, although they had no profile pictures or content yet. Her YouTube account received over a thousand subscribers before its official launch. Additionally, the mouseover preview on the Wanted! PV on YouTube accidentally revealed Nerissa's name, title, and appearance ahead of time.[15][16]

All -Advent- members' YouTube channels reached 100,000 subscribers within twelve hours of the announcement.[17] On 30 July, prior to her debut, Nerissa reached 200,000 subscribers.

Debut

Nerissa Ravencroft's debut stream took place on 31 July at 12:00 noon to 12:45PM JST (Monday 30 July from 8:00 PM to 8:45 PM PDT. Her debut was attended by over 107,000 viewers at peak. It was followed by the release of her first cover, the Vocaloid song "Love Me, Love Me, Love Me", with English lyrics written by herself.

In hololive tradition, this was followed by the generation all-member group collab stream. This was in turn followed by the release of their first group song, "Rebellion."

2023

On 1 August, Nerissa reached 300,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel during her first solo stream, where she played game Unpacking.[18]

On 6 August, she celebrated her YouTube channel monetization and also enabled Super Chat feature.[19]

On 14 August, Nerissa reached 400,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel.[20]

On 30 August, Nerissa's YouTube channel was open for membership.[21]

On 21 November, during her birthday, Nerissa reached 500,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel.[22] This makes her the 58th hololive member to reach this milestone, and the third of her generation.

On 8 December, hololive English's Twitter account announced that -Advent- would debut their second 2D costumes.[23]

2024

On 1 January, hololive's Twitter account announced -Advent- second costumes reveal streams would be rescheduled due to the earthquake in Japan.[24]

On 5 January, Nerissa debuted her new year costume. She uses her hair tied, decorated with the same black flowers as her horns and blue lights. Nerissa wears a black kimono which sleeves and bottom edge resemble feathers. Her kimono has multiple flower patterns in white, golden, blue and purple. She has a layered obi in black, blue and beige decorated with two bells. She has black sandals with white socks. Nerissa can also use a black shawl with a fluffy white edge, complemented with two pins including one of a cleff. She can also hold a blue paper parasol with a blue flying birds pattern and flowers on top of it. Her mascot Shadow also use a tie and some flower pins.[25]

On 19 February, Nerissa reached 600,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel.[26]

On 27 April, Nerissa debuted her first original song "Say My Name."

On 29 May, hololive's Twitter announced that -Advent- would get their 3D models during summer.[27] The announcement on 11 July stated that Nerissa's 3D debut stream would take place on 9 August.[28]

On 31 May, she reached 700,000 subscribers on her YouTube during a stream of the game Cats Organized Neatly.[29]

On 7 August, Nerissa released her fist EP "In My Feelings."

On 9 August, Nerissa debuted her 3D model on her YouTube channel.[30]

On 31 August, as part of the ENigmatic Recollection project, hololive English members debuted a new accessory for their main 2D costumes. They wear the white and blue cloaks first seen in the project's introduction video and related concept art. The cloak includes a blue gem containing a symbol that represents their affiliated guilds.[31]

On 21 December, Nerissa debuted her 3D Santa costume. The costume has two versions, red and white.[32]

On 31 December, she reached 800,000 subscribers on her YouTube.[33]

2025

On 14 January, Nerissa debuted her third 2D costume. It features two hairstyles: short hair with bangs styled to the sides exposing her forehead; and a long ponytail. Nerissa has some make up using eyeshadow and blush. She can have heart-shaped eyes. Nerissa wears an office lady outfit, using a white, long sleeved blouse with black buttons and outline and a feather pin. She has a black, tight skirt that includes a checkered, fabric belt and silver buttons. Her legs are covered with black stockings and she has black heels. Nerissa can also wear a blue jacket with a with a pink, checkered lining, the jacket also has a feathers pattern in the lower section. She has a black scarf with a checkered pattern. Nerissa can also wear glasses and rise her hand to adjust them, hold a microphone and hold a bottle of soju.[34]

On 27 February, during an Advent's friendship test collab featuring their casual costumes, each member had a hairstyle swap. Nerissa has Fuwawa's main hairstyle including the dog ears.[35]

On 8 March, she debuted her hololive 6th fes. Color Rise Harmony 3D idol costume during the event's day 1 STAGE 1. The costume has some variants, it can be black or white, complemented with a color representative of the talent. The midriff can be covered or not. One has variant has a skirt while the other uses pants, with one leg exposed. Aside for the design featured in promotional material, the costume also includes a short jacket.[36]

On 1 April, Shiori, Nerissa and Bijou, debuted buff 3D models.[37]

On 4 August, -Advent- announced a project to celebrated their second anniversary, including "The Story of Advent", a five chapter series corresponding to five original songs about the journey of them, a holo no graffity episode, and a 3D live "On the Run!" on 29 August.[38][39] A prologue video and their third original song "Genesis" were released on the same day.

On 5 August, Nerissa reached 900,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel during an endurance stream.[40][41]

On 29 August, during their second anniversary live "On the Run!", -Advent- debuted their 3D swimsuits first introduced in the hololive Summer 2023 event. The 2023 swimsuits are inspired in a sailor uniform. Members wear a two layered swimsuit, the first layer is blue from the straps going down diagonally to the center where each member has a mostly blue bow but one of the sides and the brooch are in one color representative of each member. The rest of the top is white. The edge has a semi circular cut. The lower piece of the first layer has two variants, one is a two layered blue skirt decorated with a white belt, a golden chain with some decorations hanging from it and a bow to the left and planks to the right. The second version is mostly the same but they wear blue shorts instead of a mini skirt. The second layer of the outfit is a matching striped bikini in white and another color depending on the member.[42]

Name

  • Nerissa is a female given name, probably derived from Ancient Greek etymology, meaning "sea-nymph." It is believed to have been invented by William Shakespeare for his play The Merchant of Venice.
  • Ravencroft is a surname of English origin. The raven is a black bird said to symbolize death. "Croft" is a suffix appearing in surnames that originally meant a plot of land, or an underground crypt.
    • "Croft" could also be a pun on "crow," a black bird similar to a raven; or the Japanese "kuro," meaning "black."
  • She writes her name in western order, with the given name first.
  • She writes her name in katakana, normally used for foreign words.

Lore

  • The members of Advent were sealed away in The Cell, a prison deep underground built to hold dangerous people and things. Its location is a closely-guarded secret.[46]
  • Nerissa's beautiful singing voice held the power to drive people to insanity. The gods broke her horn, which limited her power. The other part of it still exists somewhere, but she does not know where. Now people can safely listen to her singing.
    • Later in a collab stream, Shiori revealed that she knew where the part of horn was, but she didn't mention it before because Nerissa didn't ask.[47] Shiori is a person who knows many things including forbidden info; maybe on the journey of searching and archiving, she accidentally found where the gods hid Nerissa's horn.
    • Nerissa was only 1,000 years old when her horn was broken. She was smaller then, and more like Bijou in size.[48]
    • If her horns are removed, blood spurts out. Once the bleeding stops, hair regenerates on the spots and grows to full length instantly.[49] When replaced, her horns re-attach automatically, like a magnet.[50] She takes them off each night to sleep.[51][52]
  • For a long time while she was sealed away in The Cell, she didn't want to sing at all. During this time, she listened to a lot of Touhou music.[53]
  • Nerissa has two weapons: her tuning fork staff, which she used to stun the guards to make her escape, and a microphone.[10]
  • Hanging from a keychain at her hip is the master key of The Cell that she stole from the guards when they escaped in case they were caught.[10]
  • She is a demon, but also a raven. She loves to collect shiny things, and is fond of Koseki Bijou as a result.[53]
  • Nerissa describes herself as being "old enough to drink alcohol". She later expanded on this, claiming that she was in The Cell for 9,000 years.[54]

  • She was a KFP employee before joining hololive, and more closely resembled one of Kiara's mascot characters.[30] Fanart occasionally depicts her in a KFP uniform similar to Kiara's.

  • Nerissa hobbies are: cooking, watch musicals, collecting jewelry, (not) playing the bass (she explained that she has it but she doesn't play it often) and skincare.[60]

Miscellaneous

  • At 175 cm (5'9"),[5] Nerissa is the tallest member of hololive English at her debut, as well as the tallest member of hololive overall.
    • The previous tallest hololive English member was retired Council member Tsukumo Sana, at 169 cm. However, with her limiter removed, Sana could reach a height of 1,697,840 km tall. Following Sana's retirement, the tallest EN member had been Ouro Kronii, at 168 cm (5'6").
    • Nerissa is two centimeters taller than hololive Indonesia's Kaela Kovalskia, who is 173 cm and who was the previous tallest member of hololive overall.
  • Her emoji, 🎼, is a musical score with a treble clef. Her outfit also reflects musical notation; a bass clef appears on her hair clip, her belt buckle, the white wing of her dress, and her staff. Her staff also resembles a tuning fork, although it can also take the form of a microphone.
  • In the group debut PV, the end of her title "The Demon of Sound" was covered by her character model, leading fans to nickname her "The Demon of Soup", a name she easily accepted.[65]
    • During her 3D debut in 2024, she held a cooking event in which she boiled a pot of soup, declaring this a fulfilment of her title as Demon of Soup.[30]
  • Nerissa is the only member of -Advent- to have a weapon, her staff. The FUWAMOCO twins also have claw weapons, but it is their natural weapon since they are demon dogs.
  • Despite being bird-themed, Nerissa was not automatically invited into HOLOTORI, a group formed of fellow bird members Takanashi Kiara, Oozora Subaru, Pavolia Reine, Nanashi Mumei and Takane Lui. This may be because HOLOTORI began performing together as a unit in 3D events, and as a new member Nerissa would not gain her 3D model for some time. Kiara noted that while she is indeed a holobird, and has been in communication with the other members of HOLOTORI, they need to wait for management approval before being integrated as an official member.[66][67]
  • She speaks some Japanese, knowing around 2,000 Japanese words, and can read around 1,000 kanji. However, she is not fluent. In her debut, she claimed to be able to read 2,000 kanji, but this was later corrected in episode 7 of Fuwamoco Morning.[68]
  • She was not particularly popular in middle school and was bullied a lot.
  • She wakes at 11 am most days.[10]
  • She is dyslexic.
  • She had an abnormally intense growth spurt during puberty in fifth grade and grew to 5'9", resulting in her getting scoliosis. Her spine had to be corrected with a metal rod in a surgery, after which she had to relearn how to walk. This fused her vertebrae together and made it physically impossible for her to crack her back. However, she does have permanently good posture.
  • Nerissa has had members of her family appear onstream, either planned or unplanned, enough times to the point that her fans have jokingly referred to her channel as "The Ravencroft Family channel". All of her family members have onstream avatars, most designed by Nerissa herself.
    • Her eldest sister, Malpha, aka Oneerissa, is depicted as having black and green hair, light pink eyes, and a halo-like horn. Married with 5 children, she has sung and played games with Nerissa onstream.
    • The middle sister, Aradia, aka Anerissa, is depicted as having black and pink hair, dark pink eyes, and two short upright horns. Aradia has the most appearances on Nerissa's channel, having performed in various karaoke streams and even a cover song.
