She is a student who works part-time at a knick-knack store that connects the parallel world with the present. Recently, she can see the fairies that live in the store, but it might be because she ate too many blueberries.[4] |

Personality[]
Nei is a soft-spoken, gentle girl with a distinctive "windshield-wiper"-like laugh. By virtue of her debut-mates being comparatively odd and high-spirited, she often ends up being the only sane man or straight man when it comes to their antics. However, she herself can be quite silly and just as pon and clumsy as they are at times, Tweeting on the day Ranunculus made their YouTube debut that it was a "spring newbie pon festival".[7]
She has a prickly and somewhat tsundere-esque temperament when it comes to her debut-mates, more than expected from her "soft" appearance - though said debut-mates consider it cute and a positive trait.[8] For example, she once bluntly stated that "Ranunculus is not a teetee group" in contrast to Amagase Muyu having described them as "getting along many times better than you'd expect".[9][10] Nevertheless, she has shown that she does deeply care for her debut-mates - as well as her pseudo gen-mates in the form of the other VIRTUAL TALENT ACADEMY (VTA) first generation students - even organizing a project to celebrate their second VTA debut anniversary despite her introverted and relatively withdrawn nature.
Appearance[]
Nei has long, dark blue hair tied in loose pigtails with red infinity symbol-shaped hair ties and light blue-grey to pink gradient-colored eyes. She has a large blue-purple hair accessory that looks like a traditional Japanese knot. The hair accessory has a large blue-purple digital three-leaf clover-shaped overlay. In her default appearance, she wears a blue-red gradient colored jacket with black trim and white pompoms on the sleeves, over a navy and blue sailor fuku top and navy high-waisted shorts. She wears white tights and black loafers; the loafers have red digital ring-shaped overlays over them. Her other accessories include a transparent blueberry-shaped shoulder bag and a bottle of tabasco sauce with her name on it around her neck. Options: |
Nei's second outfit, which matches those of the other Ranunculus members, consists of an idol-style uniform featuring a short white blazer with black tartan, gold, and navy blue accents, a collar with a navy blue and black ribbon, a white top and navy vest, a white and black tartan pleated skirt with black, gold, and navy blue trim, a large navy blue back ribbon, a pair of navy blue thigh-high stockings with black and gold trim, and white boots with black cuffs and navy blue laces. Her accessories include a black tartan beret, belt, and brooch, all with ranunculus motifs; a blue armband; and white gloves. The outfit also came with a new hairstyle, which has her hair being let down rather than in pigtails. |
As a VTA student, Nei had dark grey-black hair tied into low twintails with hair ties decorated with blue, lime green, and purple orbs. She had purplish-grey eyes. She wore the standard VTA first generation female uniform, consisting of a black hooded varsity jacket with white stripes, a black cardigan, a white dress shirt, a black necktie with blue, lime green, and purple stripes, a pleated black skirt with diagonal pinstripes along the bottom hem, calf-length black socks, and black loafers. |

On 5 November 2021, Nei held her first stream ✗ on the VTA channel. Her first Tweet was made on 15 November 2021.[14]
While the students all took part in dance, vocal, acting, and other practical lessons together, they were divided into classes for lectures and classroom-based studying in smaller groups. Nei was placed in class 1, alongside Amagase Muyu, Fura Kanato, and Watarai Hibari; the division was based on their streaming schedules, with class 1 streaming on Fridays and class 2 streaming on Thursdays.[15]
On 16 March 2022, ANYCOLOR announced that Nei would be graduating from VTA to debut directly into NIJISANJI as part of the unit "Ranunculus", the first wave of Livers formed from VTA graduates.[2] In preparation for her debut, Nei received a full redesign, and all YouTube videos previously created during her time in VTA were hidden.
Nei's YouTube channel was created on 2 March 2022, and her Twitter account was also created in the same month. Her first Tweet was made on 16 March 2022.

At the concert, they debuted their second original song, "Kamisama Record" (カミサマレコード), which was released on digital platforms at midnight the next day, followed by the music video on 7 July. Like "DONBURA KONBURA SPEAKERS", the song was written and produced by MONACA's Hirokawa Keiichi.
From 4 November to 11 November, coinciding with the second anniversary of their VTA debuts, the 8 former members of VTA's first generation who ultimately debuted with NIJISANJI held the Ano 8-Nin Nayutan Medley (あの8人でナユタンメドレー), a cover relay in which each member sang a different NayutalieN song. Nei was the one who organized the event,[41] and initiated the relay with a cover of "Planet Loop" (惑星ループ) on 4 November. The relay concluded with a cover of "Alien Alien" (エイリアンエイリアン) by the full group on 12 November.
At NijiFes 2023, which was held from 23 December to 24 December, she took part in the Game-Lu? Game-Ru! Game Show!! ~Nise 3 Otome ga Nottochauzo ♡~ stage on Day 2.[42]

Mascots and Fans[]
- Her fans are officially referred to as "Ponmates" (ぽんめいと).[51]
- Her channel membership comes in one tier, Backyard (バックヤード).
- Her fanmark is 🫐 (blueberries).
- Her mascots are the three floating blueberry fairies that are always seen accompanying her. She originally named them Bluo (ぶるお), Bluta (ぶるた), and Blumi (ぶるみ), however was told that those names sounded somewhat lame, so she now calls them Lue (ルー), Ber (ベー), and Ry (リー) instead.[51]
- The biggest one is Lue, the mid-sized one is Ber, and the white one is Ry.[52]
- They were the first fairies she realized she was able to see. They are not edible.[51]
- A large cushion in the likeness of one of the fairies was released on 16 September 2022 as part of Ranunculus' half-anniversary line of goods.
- Two of the fairies are featured on the acrylic stand pouch released on 16 March 2023 as part of Ranunculus' first anniversary line of goods.

Trivia[]
Identity[]
- Color: #5A7DFF[57]
- Background: University student from Kansai.[2]
- Occupation: Part-time worker at a knick-knack shop that serves as a bridge between her world and a parallel universe.[2]
- Her MBTI is ISFJ-A.[58]
- She shares her character designer, Nishiki Kope, with independent VTuber Ukuse Solla, Kamiya Hoguno of HareVare, Meikai Loveka of NoriPro, and Kinami Alice of Parast!.
Character and Lore[]
- She is from virtual Hyōgo and as such speaks in Kansai dialect.[59]
- She first realized she could see fairies when the manager of the knick-knack shop she works at part-time pointed out Lue, Ber, and Ry to her and asked if she could see them too.[51]
- She suspects that the shop manager is not exactly human, but isn't entirely sure.[51]
- She finds her part-time work at the knick-knack shop to be somewhat dull, as not many customers stop by - which Inui Toko remarks is a similar situation to the tea shop she works at. She describes time as feeling like it passes by far too slowly when she is on the clock especially since she is standing the whole time.[60]
- After drinking something given to her by mistake by the shop manager, she no longer ages - as it turned out to be some sort of age-arresting medicine.[61]
Name[]
- Her surname Ponto is written as 先斗. Notably, the word 先斗 (ponto) is ateji (kanji used to phonetically represent loanwords from other languages), and is thought to be derived from the Portuguese word "ponte", which means "bridge".
- Her given name Nei is written as 寧, with 寧 (nei) meaning quiet or tranquil.
Preferences[]
- Hobbies: Perusing knick-knack shops, going to the aquarium, buying stationery, dance, watching comedy bits and Let's Plays
- Likes:[51]

Miscellaneous[]
- She is the shortest member of Ranunculus by a decent margin, which is
a bit of aa big sore spot for her.[8] She has had to clarify that her official height includes shoes (her actual height being a secret), and was even told prior to their debut that there were concerns from management that the height difference between her and Amagase Muyu and Umise Yotsuha might not be visually appealing.[1] She apparently stopped growing in fifth grade.[66] - She has two younger brothers.[67]
- Nei did not tell her mother that she was a VTuber and initially hid it from her, but later found out that her mother had figured out the truth on her own when she complimented Nei on the song cover she had posted for her birthday.[68]
- Much like the rest of Ranunculus, she is rather technologically inept.
- Her internet connection used to be notoriously spotty when she was a VIRTUAL TALENT ACADEMY (VTA) student, with her streams occasionally going offline and her voice becoming choppy. After starting to use her younger brother's internet connection, this has since resolved after her NIJISANJI debut.[52]
- She once thought that it was impossible to type "?" without typing "hatena" (はてな, question mark) and then converting it.[69]
- When not streaming, she wears glasses. She blames her eyesight deteriorating to having frequently covered one of her eyes during a time in her life when she was a chūnibyō.[64]
- She took the Pottermore Hogwarts House test and was sorted into Ravenclaw.[70]
- Interestingly, the four girls of Ano 8-Nin were each sorted into the houses roughly corresponding to their image colors for their respective Hogwarts Legacy playthroughs: Yotsuha into Hufflepuff,[71] Muyu into Gryffindor,[72] Nei into Ravenclaw,[73] and Kaburaki Roco into Slytherin.[74]
- She applied to VTA out of a simple desire to be part of NIJISANJI. She first learned of NIJISANJI around the time the Selene Drama Club debuted. Before auditioning for VTA, she had previously attempted to audition to NIJISANJI's "experienced content creator" stream by pretending to be experienced.[20]
- For the video test portion of her VTA audition, she submitted a one-man duet cover of "Turing Love" (チューリングラブ) that she had also illustrated and animated.[20]
- Before her final interview, she waited outside the venue for two hours and nearly cried listening to Sanbaka's "San-bai! Sun Shine! Carnival!" (3倍!Sun Shine!カーニバル!).[20]
- She was often thought of as being somewhat "sheltered" and experienced a lot of "common" things for the first time as a VTA student, such as eating hamburgers and pizza, watching a Studio Ghibli film, drinking bitter tea, and playing a crane game.[20][75]
- Because she is from Kansai and VTA is based in Tokyo, she lived out of a hotel while attending the academy.[56]
- Nei's first impressions of the VTA first generation members → her more recent impressions of them (from just before her debut):[1]
- Muyu: "She seems calm. Has a kind look in her eyes." → "There's no-one cuter. I'm obsessed. Works hard."
- Yotsuha: "Gentle. A good communicator. Person who gives off good vibes." → "She's a worrier, but doesn't let her worries stay worries. A personification of gentleness."
- Fura Kanato: "Flashy. Extraverted. High-spirited onii-san. Scary." → "A kusogaki but also a clever guy who can take in his surroundings calmly."
- Watarai Hibari: "Lively. Laughs a lot. Has that 'singing onii-san' vibe." → "A really good singer. A moodmaker who gets teased a lot."
- Shikinagi Akira: "Talks a lot. The center of the conversation. Fudanshi-kun." → "Easily lonely. Has pep-talks with himself. The biggest gap between his appearance and his true self."
- Seraph Dazzlegarden: "He seems quiet at first glance, but he does talk. I wish he talked more." → "He's pure, too pure. A boke machine. A shy person who knows a lot of things."
- Roco: "Talks a lot. Cheerful, so I like it when she reaches her limit, snaps, and goes into otaku mode." → "Has some genius quips. Is loved a lot. Got any pizza-flavored potato chips?"
