Over the years, Sapphire Q has worn many faces. She’s been many things, lived countless adventures, and survived several worlds. The cycle of reincarnation has taken Sapphire from one space to the next for a long time. And now, in this lifetime, she finds herself in the grandest tale yet.
In the Oceans darkest depths, a young Sapphire was born to a mighty and proud woman. A woman of Divine blood, whose body could either be that of a serpent or a human. The Divine Blood was a gift bestowed upon an ancient Monarch of a Sea-fairing people. That Monarch became powerful as the blood made them not only a ruler of their people, but of the whole Sea.
The exact Origins of whomever bestowed the Divine blood upon the long past monarch is unknown, but legend spoke of the Ocean’s original God, an entity never quite seen. The Divinity passed through the generations is said to have been the God’s final gift to this world, before leaving the mortal realm.
As time swept past, those Sea-fairing peoples moved on and the Serpentine line came to rule only the Sea and all it’s wondrous creatures.
Sapphire, destined to become the next leader of the Serpentine Realm, grew up learning the ways of the Ocean. She learned how all it’s creatures thrived in unison, how their habits affected the ecosystem, and about all the dangers she had to protect her people’s from.
Her mother warned her of the dangers of the world above the water. That the sea-fairing people they once guarded were no longer acting as proper friends of the Ocean. As she grew, she watched her mother desperately fight to keep the Serpentine Realm from succumbing to the humans poorly thought out actions. However, despite her mother’s efforts, throughout Sapphire’s many years of adolescence, she witnessed once flourishing sectors of the realm become desolate and devoid of life outside of the migratory species passing through.
Her mother, over time, grew to resent the same humans the Serpentine line once served. And Sapphire witnessed her mothers rage as she began stirring storms and disasters designed to keep the people from entering the Realm. Despite her intentions, those actions only wreaked further havoc upon the ocean’s many creatures. But her mother was much too blinded by her evergrowing hatred and rage. She stirred a storm so powerful, Sapphire found herself having to retreat home to shelter from its destruction, welcoming as many sea creatures in as possible. Lightning cracked like a whip, loud enough to be heard from the Ocean’s floor, the thunder causing vibrations in the water. Aggressive winds caused several whirlpools to trap creatures unable to shelter. Tsunamis attacked shorelines all around the world. Hurricanes terrorized both the Ocean and the human collectives on land.
The night was long, the feeling of catastrophic doom washing over every single living creature. Even those on the most inland parts of land. No one was free from the terror of the Serpents rage. Though it painfully dragged on, the never-ending night eventually came to a halt.
Skittishly, the creatures swam from the cave, and behind them came the Oceans Princess, Serpent form on full display as she swam at a speed she’d never once reached before. Her mother was nowhere in sight, and though the Ocean was vast, it was unlike her to be so far so early. And after the previous night's disasters, Sapphire worried for her mothers safety. Could even the great Serpentine Queen responsible for the destruction, survive it?
She searched frantically all day, and late into the night, and there was no sight of her mother. The search didn’t end for months, as all the Ocean’s creatures who had been under the Serpentine line’s protection for thousands of years joined in. Every crevice of the Sea was searched, once, twice, and several times after. And yet still, nothing. After the Great Storm, the Queen was gone. She was never seen again, not even a single scale. She was simply gone.
The Ocean, already in such disarray from the Storm, only began to collapse further as there was no Queen to rule her waters. And so, after the many months, Sapphire did the painful thing and pronounced herself Queen. Her knowledge was not quite at the level of what a Queens should be, but she was without options and assumed the vacant throne hoping that what she knew and what she saw of the late Majesty’s misguidance would be enough to guide her to healing the broken Sea.
