Shiro Nya (stylized as shiro__nya) is an independent male Canadian VTuber whose primary language is English. He has been streaming on Twitch since 25 March 2023 (as a PNG-tuber) and officially debuted as a VTuber on 1 July 2023.

Shiro's likeness is roughly based on the character of the same name from the No Game No Life franchise and the Live2D Sample Model Hiyori Momose. He has had two designs – a PNG-tuber model by Rune and a Live2D model by Azzypics.

Shiro’s PNG-tuber model has mushroom-colored hair to her waist and an ahoge, a lock of hair in front of her face, sky blue eyes, and fair skin. She wears a white sailor fuku school uniform with a cyan lavallière and a gold crown with the letter "N" on it. A side ponytail goes through her crown.

Shiro’s Live2D model is based on the PNG-tuber model with a few differences. She has hazelnut hair and violet eyes. She has two outfits:

  • The Comfy outfit consists of a pastel pink pullover with a cyan collar and an apricot lavallière, a cyan skirt, pastel pink thigh-high socks, and brown school shoes. There are a few decorative badges on her chest, including a pogo-stick badge, a mushroom badge, and a name tag written in Japanese.
  • The Maid outfit is a classic French maid outfit from the Victorian era. It consists of a white short-sleeve dress with a black ribbon above the chest, a frilly white apron with shoulder straps, a black corset tied with a red string, black and white wrist cuffs, two layers of white frills under the dress, pastel pink thigh high socks, and black Mary Jane shoes.

Regardless of outfit, Shiro's model can wear either a gold crown with the purple letter "S" on it or an orange birthday hat with red and purple stripes. She can also equip cat ears the color of her hair with white ear tufts. Shiro can redden her eyes or disable eye highlights for reactions and roleplays.

Halloween 2023 Update[]

On 24 October 2023, Shiro received a model update[1] for the 2023 Halloween Season. The model was first showcased on Shiro's stream as part of the Spooky Week event.

The main feature of the Halloween 2023 Update is a witch outfit (also referred to as a "timemaid outfit" by Shiro). This outfit includes:

  • a lavender witch hat with magenta red underside and a golden four-pointed star attached to its tip, adorned with a crystal blue hat band with a golden buckle stylized like a cat face;
  • a pair of lavender shoulder parts of a maid apron with a layer of white frills under each;
  • a golden collar with a white bow;
  • a dark brown sleeveless top with a slightly darker butterfly and moon pattern on it;
  • a lavender dress with a magenta red layer under it, visible through symmetrical vertical slits on both top and bottom parts, held with a crystal blue belt with a golden buckle;
  • a pair of lavender detached sleeves with golden cuffs on either end;
  • a pair of dark brown high boots with magenta red bows tied on the outer side of each.

The update also includes a pogo-themed staff with a pink crystal on its top and a shorter haircut that omits Shiro's iconic ponytail to avoid obstructing certain parts of screen whenever video games display important information there. This new haircut consists of blunt bangs in the front as well as multiple princess curls on the sides and in the back.

Background[]

Before becoming a streamer, Shiro worked as a moderator for Neuro-sama. In his early days, he primarily streamed for a small group of friends from the Neuro-sama Headquarters Discord server.

2023[]

On 25 March, Shiro started streaming on Twitch as a community event for Neuro-sama Headquarters.[2]

On 11 April, Shiro became a Twitch affiliate.

During his stream on 23 June, Shiro teased that he would reveal "something exciting" once a 30,000 Channel Point redeem challenge was completed.

On 25 June, the Channel Points challenge was completed and Shiro teased his new Live2D model.

On 26 June, Shiro created a Twitter/X account.[3]

On 1 July, Shiro debuted as a VTuber.

On 20 August, Shiro hosted a marathon stream for the charity Games For Love.[4] His community raised $1,346.01 on stream, with a later off-stream donation bringing the total to $1,500, hitting the goal.

On 6 September, Shiro reached 500 followers on Twitch.

2024[]

Party Week was held from March 25th to March 31st. Celebrating Shiro's First stream on the channel and birthday(s).

On 27 March, Shiro reached 1000 followers on Twitch. After stream, for the first day of party week.

On 1 April Shiro "Dropped Merch" as a troll which lead to actual merch being made later on.

On 13 of April, Shiro's Discord became a year old.

Shiro released merch on 12 May, a set of stickers made by Ancient Pillow.

From 29 June to 1 July, Shiro took part in the VTuber Slam to raise money for charity. This overlapped with Shiro's Model debut anniversary.

2025[]

On 10-13 February, after a prolonged hiatus, Shiro took part in Heartstream Heroes, raising money for American Heart Association. He hosted a series of daily streams, which resulted in him and his community raising $1,500 for charity.[5] This placed Shiro at 17th place in the fundraising leaderboard (out of 64 individual streamers listed for the February event) and overshot the original goal of $1000 by 50%.

Birthday-related[]

  • Stemming from Shiro answering "this year" to the question about the date of his birthday, there's a running joke that Shiro's birthday is every day. During post-stream raids, raid targets are usually gaslit into believing it's actually his birthday and would congratulate him. Others, like Camila, are in on the joke and keep it running.
  • The phrase "It is not my birthday!", often said by Shiro in response to mistimed birthday wishes, has led to the development of additional lore that Shiro "steals birthdays" from people around him, proudly exclaiming that the birthday is, in fact, not his.
  • It is said that Shiro is the God of Birthdays and uses his incomprehensible powers to manipulate our birthdays; Shiro giveth and Shiro taketh away.
  • Shiro's actual birthday is on the 27th of March – that is, the 27th of March every day, every month, for every year.

  • Birthday boy: refers to the running gag of Shiro having his birthday every single day, as explained above.
  • Shibo: mashup of the names of Shiro and Shiba, the latter being a fellow staff member at Neuro-sama Discord Server.
  • Shito: spawned from a typo (the R and T keys are situated next to one another on QWERTY keyboards) by Anny when she was making a birthday joke in Neuro-sama's Discord Server.

Other[]

  • The letters "N" and "S" on the two model's crowns stand for "Neuro" and "Shiro", respectively, as his first design was made in the context of him being a Neuro-sama community moderator. However, other interpretations exist, such as S and N standing for "Shiro" and "Nya" or "North" and "South".
  • Despite being a nekomimi, Shiro usually only meows per request (for a certain sum of channel points) and substitutes the onomatopoeia with "cat sound" or "cat word." As a part of a donation incentive during his charity marathon, he meowed more than precisely 100 times in a row.
  • Shiro has set the minimum bits requirement on Twitch to 9999 to discourage donations to him. He also set the amount of advertisements to minimal and said that if there were an option to disable paid subscriptions altogether, he would do that as well. Nevertheless, the community tries its best to support Shiro through the remaining means.
    • This hurdle had been overcome on 16 September 2023, when Twitch user Flonk (who also made Shiro's streaming software layouts) donated 10000 bits.[6]
  • While the mushroom is a prominent meme associated with Shiro, he doesn't actually like eating mushrooms.[7]
  • While Shiro has never publicly disclosed this information, it's said that he is a 5'4" 120lb femboy.
  • The PNG-tuber model was not intended to be used as a PNG-tuber model when it was drawn.
  • The pogo badge is a reference to Shiro's Choice Chamber streams where chat would repeatedly pick pogo jump because it was the worst option.
  • The mushroom badge is a reference to Shiro's encounters with mushrooms in his Don't Starve Together streams and the mushroom facts he sent in the discord server.
