Production and release[]
Sleep Talking was the fifth track on Takanashi Kiara's first album, Point of View. It was released digitally on 29 August 2023. Pre-orders for a physical CD release were available between 29 August 2023 and 2 October 2023, for delivery in November 2023. The album was announced at short notice during a HoloCure stream on 28 August 2023.
The song was not originally written for Kiara, but was provided as a sample on composer Monii's demo tape, and was originally recorded in 2021. Kiara loved the song so much that she insisted on including it in her album. She felt it was similar to DO U. Prior to the song's release, she gave a preview to fellow hololive member Laplus Darknesss following an off-collab, which took place on 30 June 2023.[1]
KIRA, who is partly credited on the composition, previously provided composition and lyrics for Kiara's singles SPARKS and DO U, while monii and Johnny also worked on DO U. Kiara referred to the trio as Kiwawa's Angels, while Kanauru's music video for Pineapple referred to them as "Asteroid Music Team."[1] Sleep Talking was the first new song on the album to be completed.[2]
On 10 December 2023, Kiara released a Sleep Talking music video.
